Iowa’s city and school elections are on Tuesday—so turn in your absentee ballot, vote early today, or make a plan to vote next week.

Speaking of the cold shoulder….

I thought winter might be upon us from the snow photos I’ve seen out of northwest Iowa, and the temperatures in the 20s most nights lately here in northeast Iowa.

Since the last time the temperature hit 90 degrees was roughly Oct. 1, and the first hard freeze hit parts of us this past Saturday, by my calculations that means “actual fall” in Iowa was a grand total of 27 days.

Hope you enjoyed it, because it might now be the season of “ope.”

(yes, there are actually 12 “seasons” on that list; take it up with these guys.)

Hopefully, Ope season means we get at least one more weekend of nice weather—that’d be the one where I convince myself this is the weekend I’m definitely going camping (and inevitably bail).

Dallas Center-Grimes parents worry about school board candidate’s right-wing ties 🗳️

When Sean Cully launched a Facebook page for his Dallas Center-Grimes (DCG) School Board campaign, his intro stated that he wanted to “protect students, parents and educators from wokeism!”

Shortly afterward, Cully scrapped that language. But that, plus some of his past remarks on public schools, and his ties to right-wing churches and groups like Moms for Liberty, all worry some DCG parents and teachers.

Ty also caught former President Donald Trump’s gaffe this week in Sioux…something. (And do you know ALL the places with Sioux in the name?)

Now that it’s cold out again, it’s a great time for an indoor activity. Like getting that tattoo you’ve been putting off!

I have three, all sentimental for me, and all after I researched or got recommendations about the best tattoo artists in the area. But it’s also been a few years, and this week’s question is giving me the itch to go back.

Iowa has seen some kind of drought conditions in the state for 174 weeks—just under three-and-a-half years—making this the longest drought Iowa has had since the 1950s.

But Iowans haven’t seen widespread water restrictions or serious crop failures. So is there anything to worry about?
