How you’re voting this year:
“Already voted.” Paula K.
“I voted with an absentee ballot. But I did not mail it. I delivered it to the place on Euclid.” Susan H.
“Straight red down the ticket and taking friends with me.” Paul C.
“I DON’T CARE SINCE ALL THEY’RE GOING TO DO IS FUCK UP THIS COUNTRY WORSE THAN THEY ALREADY HAVE BY ELECTING AND SUPPORTING A HUGE JACKASS LIKE DONALD TRUMP WHO IS NOTHING BUT A GREEDY BIGGIT.” Stephanie S.
“I’m NOT political nor do I care who’s been selected for this or that. This hasn’t changed America for the better in the last 200 years. My opinion is that we need to flush the toilet from the Outhouse to the White House. I have zero respect for any politician after they lied to my face about getting veteran benefits for those of us military contractors who were deployed to Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya and other ‘wonderful places.’ I served for 21 years and never got squat from our government. Maybe when they stop lying to the nation I might trust them.” psychickitty14
“Here in Oregon, Karen and I received a very thick booklet (11” by 7” and perhaps a quarter of an inch thick) featuring information on all the candidates running at every level. Included were instructions on how to vote—in about 8 languages—and bios, photos, and statements of what they stood for and hoped to accomplish that were written by the candidates themselves and printed exactly as they wrote them. …
For the county commission leadership position we were offered ranked choice voting in which each of the five candidates could be ranked by everyone voting in positions 1 (top choice) through 5 (bottom choice). The booklet included clear instructions as to how persons should approach ranked choice voting. …
We can either drop our completed ballot in the mail (postage free) or drop it off in specially designated boxes located around the city. Karen and I mailed ours, since the Post Office here does not screw around with ballots.
If only Iowa would switch to mail voting, too. It eliminates all the hassle about taking time out of work—something most working people can’t do—and affords you a chance as well to study the printed information sent to you rather than rely on fleeting—and often misleading—audio and visual ads put out by the candidates over the airwaves.” Greg C.
“When I’m getting tons of text messages every day, tons of mail that cost the trees, [and] non-stop phone calls, at what point would I even want to vote? The system is so corrupt at this point I am done, our family is done, we are done! I can say stop to these text messages but yet they still keep coming. Then they have my name and my address and my town! That is like borderline harassment or I should say that is harassment! Number one, when it says the computer says you probably won’t vote! Yep, not going to vote thanks to all of this automated political crap!” Korine E.
Voting issue:
“Re: soil and water district commissioners–amen to Zach’s video! This year, though, I would give the biggest ‘F’ to the county agriculture extension council race (I live in Des Moines; others’ mileage may vary). Half of my SWD candidates had Facebook pages for their candidacy, and a third at least was discoverable online, but for county ag extension, I couldn’t even find a LinkedIn or employer webpage bio for three of the six candidates. Surely these folks have someone in their life that could at least throw up a Facebook page on their behalf?” Sadye H.
“I sent a card in, in plenty of time to get a voting ballot in the mail. It is now the 27th and I haven’t seen anything about it. In my email, I search for absentee ballot, and I don’t see anything. [Should] it come in the mail?? I worked at the USPS for a long time, and I seen a lot of damaged mail that didn’t make it to or from. What do I do? I’m probably going to go to the library in Altoona to vote here very soon. Thx for any help.” Larry G.
(NOTE: According to the Iowa Secretary of State’s website, the first thing to do is contact your county auditor, who can help get you a replacement ballot or let you know of other options.)
Job help:
“I’ve returned to Iowa from working around the country. I need to know your best opinion on how to get hired in quick order. Let me know what you’re thinking.” Andrew P. (NOTE: Iowa Workforce Development has a pretty good jobs database to start your search.)
Weather:
“Except it’s gonna be raining on Halloween from today through Halloween till next Wednesday.” Ric A. (NOTE: We got lucky: in Waterloo, it stopped raining for trick-or-treaters.)
Feedback:
“I actually read every one. There is not always something that is pertinent to me, but everything is interesting and informative, and presented in such a bright and positive manner. I hope you continue to report local news. Thank you.” Jan M.
“Sorry this is to liberal text for me, ANNIE. Take me off this email promptly.” Les J.
“You are So prejudicial to the Democrats and against the Republicans, I am canceling ever listening to you again.” Jared P.
