[NOTE: By the US government’s count, 991 Americans, including military personnel, have died in killings believed to be associated with the Iranian government since 1979. Meanwhile, our military (and Israel’s) killed at least 1,200 Iranian military personnel, and 1,700 civilians—hundreds of them children—between Feb. 28 and April 7 of this year alone.]
“If you want to live in a world with Sharia law and beheadings as a daily event, move to any one of the Muslim-held countries. American Patriots like our country just the way it is, and if that means bombing Iran and Iraq to before the stone age then so be it.” — Claudia C.
[NOTE: Iran doesn’t behead as a government; their death penalty is high, but it’s conducted by hanging. Also, the US counts many Muslim-majority countries as allies, including Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Turkey, Syria, Egypt, Bahrain, Qatar, Jordan, Oman, Kuwait, and—in case we forgot—Iraq.]
Iowa’s university non-faculty unionizing:
“Some workers who aren’t faculty are unionized: ‘merit’ employees (blue collar, technical, clerical, etc.) are covered by AFSCME, and there is a graduate student union (COGS) at UI. UCW is open to workers who aren’t already represented by a union.” — Lisa G.
“They should not need a union. They are already well paid with great benefits for a job that requires a high school diploma or less. Education already costs too much and this may result in a tuition increase.” — Paul B. The goal is simple: make local government meetings easier for Iowans to follow by automatically turning agendas, board packets, meeting videos, and other public records into plain-language summaries and visual infographics.
