Hey folks, it’s Amie.
Tuesday, April 9, is National Library Workers Day. And, geez louise, PLEASE thank a library worker in Iowa these days!
|
The governor might be continuing to demonize library workers here. But there’s good news coming out of Iowa on the “more books, not less” front!
-
Annie’s Foundation, started by a few Johnston parents in a garage to get banned books back in the hands of kids, now has a new office;
-
Iowa writers continue to write amazing books, from bestselling nonfiction tomes to children’s books to memoirs and more!
Thanks to all our library workers for everything you do!

And speaking of libraries—which offer a lot more than books these days—I’m curious: When was the last time you used the library? (This reminds me I’ve got a book on hold!)

Casey’s first impressions might be misleading. When he came to the shelter he was shy, but after some time his sweet, playful side came out. Staff at the shelter are confident he’ll flourish in a new home, and he just asks that a new family be quiet and gentle like him. You can find him at the Humane Society of North Iowa.
Timber has been working on her manners, and shelter staff realized she’s treat-motivated and eager to learn new things. After getting over her shyness, Timber has been energetic and friendly. She gets along with children and all the volunteers, so her main ask for a new home is that it be patient and willing to work with her. You can meet her at the Humane Society of North Iowa.
