Rob Sand calls out two-party system

Iowa State Auditor and Democratic gubernatorial candidate Rob Sand criticized the country’s two-party political system during an Oct. 14 debate with Republican Zach Lahn in Sioux City.

Sand argued that politicians can avoid accountability when voters feel forced to choose between two parties, even when they disagree with the candidates representing them.

“I think a lot of times the divide is much more about public service versus politicians than it is about Democrats versus Republicans,” Sand said.

Sand is running against Republican Zach Lahn in Iowa’s 2026 gubernatorial election.
