Rick Mullin, 67, passed away unexpectedly Thursday morning at his home in Sioux City. He was a loving father of two and grandfather, a longtime Democratic leader and activist in Woodbury County, and a former state legislative candidate. The following is from his lifelong friend Tim Bottaro. Starting Line will have more to say on Rick’s life in the days to come.
Rick was passionate about everything he was a part of. His family was always first in his life. Rick and Sue traveled the world together, sharing so many memories with each other and all of us. John and Megan made their father proud and his grandchildren were true blessings.
In business and politics and the Sioux City International Film Festival to name but a few, Rick poured his heart into what he was doing. He treated people well. He was often patient, always understanding and empathetic. Rick was a proud liberal and was even more liberal with his time and his talents, especially when helping others.
Rick Mullin was a true gift to Sioux City and beyond. It is so difficult to say goodbye, but it is so easy to say thank you Rick. Our memories are richer because of you. Our lives are better because you were a part of us.
Rick’s credo was “If you’re lucky enough to be Irish, then you’re lucky enough.”
Rick was a lucky guy. And so were his family and friends.
