Attorney General Brenna Bird said that Republicans support putting criminals in jail while speaking in support of former President and convicted felon Donald Trump.ย

Iowa Attorney General Brenna Bird used her prime-time speaking slot at the Republican National Convention to frame former President Donald Trump as a law-abiding citizen who will protect Americans despite his ongoing legal issues, which include felony convictions.

โ€œRepublicans get justice for victims and put criminals in jail where they belong,โ€ Bird said Tuesday. โ€œThatโ€™s why we need to elect President Donald J. Trump.โ€

Birdโ€™s remarks got a positive response from the crowd in Milwaukee, where this yearโ€™s convention is being held. Still, the attorney general and attendees all seemed to ignore that the man they are touting as a pillar of law and order is the criminal they claim to worry about.ย

In May, Trump was found guilty by a New York jury on 34 felony counts of falsifying business records tied to a payment made to adult film star Stormy Daniels to keep her quiet about their alleged affair out of fears that it would hurt his chances of winning the 2016 election.

This verdict alone made him the first American president ever to be convicted of a crime. His initial sentencing was supposed to be July 11 but was delayed until Sept. 18 at the earliest, according to the Associated Press.ย

Trump also has criminal cases in Georgia related to interference in the 2020 presidential election and a federal felony case for his role in trying to overturn the results of the 2020 election, including inciting the attack on the US Capitol Building.

In a bit of good legal news for Trump, on Monday, a Florida federal judge threw out a case against him for allegedly taking concealed government documents after leaving office. However, the US Department of Justice plans to appeal the dismissal.ย

Besides boosting Trump on faulty circumstances, Bird also used her four-minute slot to falsely accuse mainstream Democrats of wanting to defund the police, bash diversity programs for law enforcement, and said, โ€œthe radical left believes in handouts and not handcuffs.โ€

Iowaโ€™s top law enforcement official closed her speech by urging everyone to vote for Trump to โ€œMake America Safe Again.โ€
