One of the highlights of spring in Iowa, to me at least, is seeing nature bloom. My daffodils, crocuses, and hyacinths have bloomed (or are blooming), and I see the tulips are also starting to shoot up!
If you don’t have tulips blooming, however—or you want to see THOUSANDS of different colors in bloom—we’ve got the details here on Pella’s and Orange City’s tulip festivals this year, plus tulip farms that might be closer to home.
Tell me (or better yet, send me a photo) of what’s blooming near you!

In-vitro fertilization (IVF) has become a political talking point since the Alabama Supreme Court ruled in February that frozen embryos were people and that discarding them would be considered killing unborn children.
But there’s more to the story.
At Iowa Starting Line, part of our mission is to use our platforms to amplify the experiences of those who are most impacted by the issues being decided locally and nationally.
We want to give everyday citizens who have IVF on their hearts and minds a chance to talk about it.
We understand that sharing a personal story like this can be emotionally difficult, and if you’d prefer to be anonymous, we will honor that.
If you’ve had an IVF journey and would like to add your story, please email me here.

Leo is a goofy, energetic guy who loves to spend his time outside. This guy came to the shelter as a stray, but he walks well on a leash, loves to talk, and would make a great companion in a home with a yard. Meet him at the Cedar Valley Humane Society.
Vivian came to the shelter after a rough life on the streets, and she’s still a little wary about being touched. But she’s learned to love it, and the shelter is confident this sweet, loving girl will warm up to a new home that’s as quiet and low-key as she is. Find her at the Cedar Valley Humane Society.
