Without any proof or evidence to the claim, Donald Trump accused school boards of attacking Catholics during a Wednesday rally in Coralville, Iowa, where the former president also marveled at the physique of Iowa Hawkeye Punter Tory Taylor, who was in attendance.
“You look at school boards where they are going after the parents, where they are going after Catholics, in particular, where they are—how can a Catholic vote for this group of people or Democrats,” Trump said.
“I don’t know what it is with Catholics, they are going violently and viciously after Catholics—they are going after Christians—but they are going after Catholics at a level that nobody quite understands,” he continued.
Rather than elaborate on his claim that school boards are “violently and viciously” going after Catholics, Trump started talking about the wall he still wants to build at the US southern border.
School boards and school board elections have garnered a lot of attention in Iowa over the last few years, but Starting Line is not aware of a situation in which an Iowa school board dispute or discussion revolved around a specific Christian denomination
Throughout his Coralville speech, Trump continually communicated with Taylor, the Iowa punter. The Australian-born athlete was named a consensus All-American after another record-setting season punting for the Hawkeyes, who have struggled on offense as of late.
“We have this beautiful, big, strong physical specimen—I never knew they made punters that big,” Trump said of the 6-foot-4 Taylor. “He’s going to make a lot of money; I want to be his agent.”
