Gamers will take over Kinnick Stadium this weekend to compete in a College Football 26 tournament for charity.
Though Iowa football has the weekend off, Kinnick Stadium is set to play host to a competition on the virtual gridiron, with proceeds from the event benefiting the University of Iowa’s Stead Family Children’s Hospital.
The University of Iowa is hosting the College Football 26 Extra Life Charity Challenge on Saturday, Oct. 4 from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with participants competing in a double-elimination EA Sports tournament.
The event will take place in the north endzone’s Ted Pacha Family Club. Entrants will compete on EA Sports College Football 26 on PlayStation 5. The public can visit the event to watch and help raise money for the University of Iowa’s Stead Family Children’s Hospital.
Participants must be 16 or older to compete. It costs $25 for players to register for the event. Those who raise $200 will receive field access to Kinnick Stadium during the event. Anyone who raises $500 can take a tour of the tunnel and locker rooms, according to a UI news release.
The top fundraiser and overall tournament champion will each win two tickets to a Hawkeye football home game.
As of Thursday, Oct. 2, the event has raised $56,000 for the children’s hospital.
