In states with abortion bans, doctors have had to watch pregnant patients get sicker and sicker before doctors can treat them.
Now that Iowa has one of the most restrictive bans in the country, Dr. Emily Boevers, an Iowa OB-GYN, said she hopes Gov. Kim Reynolds, who signed the bill into law, is ready for phone calls from physicians who want to know if a patient is sick enough to qualify for life-saving treatment.

Dr. Boevers also said Iowa’s near-total abortion ban is a cruel intrusion on Iowan’s rights and her ability to act as their doctor.
