Did you know that Iowa is the No. 1 egg-producing state? Not only do the eggs look and taste better, but buying straight from a local farm keeps money in your community and helps build resiliency into the food system.
Luckily for residents of Eastern Iowa, there are plenty of spots to grab some fresh eggs right off the farm and literally taste the difference:
Indian Creek Nature Center
5300 Otis Rd. SE, Cedar Rapids
(319) 362-0664
Eggs are collected daily at the Nature’s Center farm property in Linn County and then sold in the Creekside Shop. Focused on regenerative agriculture, the farm’s flock of chickens are certified organic, and purchasing eggs helps support Indian Creek Nature Center’s mission-driven programming.
West Fork Farmstead
1745 200th St., West Chester
(319) 325-5097
Here you can grab eggs as well as pasture-based meat (beef and pork) and honey. They also offer duck eggs for purchase. The good people who run this farm believe in good food that’s raised well.
Our Farm
12404 County Road H22, Wapello
(319) 759-6351
The motto here is, “From our farm to your table.” They sell beef, pork, eggs, and honey, and all products purchased get picked up right at the farm.
Solstice Farm
2392 Hilton Ave., Waverly
(319) 596-6785
In northeast Iowa, you’ll find Solstice Farm if you are looking for a spot for farm-fresh eggs. On the farm, they also cultivate mushrooms, all while focusing on sustainability.
Canfield Family Farms
8717 Lester Road, Dunkerton
(319) 269-0739
This relatively large farm operation, owned by the same family for more than 150 years, focuses on non-GMO grain and forage crops, all-natural livestock supplements, and complete feeds. They also sell seasonal vegetables and eggs from pastured heritage breed laying hens.
Tangled Roots Farm
4395 225th St., Guernsey
This small farm raises chickens that produce a lovely assortment of eggs each day. They can be purchased from the farm as well as a few local shops and farmers markets. They also offer the option for egg subscriptions. Here you can also find produce, baked goods, preserves and rustic crafts.

Lucky Star Farm
2625 Highway 1 SW, Iowa City
(319) 683-4042
Lucky Star Farm is home to chickens, turkeys and ducks, goats and llamas, and farm dogs and cats. They also happen to raise multiple breeds of chicken and hybrid laying ducks on a three-acre silvopasture of chestnut trees. Orders can be placed weekly for Thursday delivery.

Kroul Farms
245 Hwy 1 South, Mount Vernon
(319) 895-8944
While this family farm has been known for decades as a great spot to go for fall decorations, pumpkins, mums, a corn maze, and spooky displays, it’s also a place to grab farm-fresh eggs year-round. They even encourage visitors to stop out and visit with the chickens for a while.
