Another component of the bill would require transgender Iowans to have their sex assigned at birth listed on their birth certificates. An earlier version required the same designation on driver’s licenses, but the bill was amended to remove this in its subcommittee.
Crow explained how interfering with government documents can affect trans people’s ability to get passports and how drivers’ licenses can still be affected if the legislation passes.

The narrow definitions of gendered terms in the bill defines trans and nonbinary people out of existence. Crow said that’s the bill’s purpose, and it won’t protect cisgender women but endanger them, too.
