Miller-Meeks Heading To The U.S.-Mexico Border

Amid an ongoing examination of Rep. Mariannette Miller-Meek’s six-vote victory over Democrat Rita Hart, the 2nd District representative is expected to join House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy on Monday at the U.S. southern border.

Axios reported that McCarthy will travel to Texas with “roughly a dozen Republican members to assess the growing crisis at the southern border.” Miller-Meeks, who recently joined GOP members in a press conference about border security outside the U.S. Capitol, confirmed her travel next week after her Deputy Chief of Staff retweeted an Iowa Field Alert announcement.

“I was proud to join my colleagues this morning to bring attention to the ongoing crisis at our southern border. Border security affects all of us, and it is imperative we take this crisis seriously,” Miller-Meeks wrote on Twitter following her press conference appearance.

The trip comes as an inquiry into the Iowa 2nd District election results is moving forward. A U.S. House committee voted on Wednesday to dismiss a motion to dismiss Hart’s petition to challenge the outcome of Miller-Meeks’ 6 vote victory.

At a press conference on Thursday, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said “Of course” she could see a scenario where House Democrats vote to unseat Miller-Meeks, depending on what is found in the inquiry.

“We will see where that takes us, but there could be a scenario to that extent,” Pelosi said.
