Earlier this month, the Latino community in Hampton, Iowa was rocked by what locals are calling a hate crime: employees of Latino-owned businesses found anti-immigrant flyers invoking Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump’s name posted outside their workplaces.
The county GOP chair condemned the usage of Trump’s name and said the message did not align with the party platform. But since the beginning of his political career and especially recently, Trump has been recorded several times spreading incredibly harmful rhetoric about immigrants. This is also not the first time his rhetoric and name have been involved in an anti-immigrant hate crime.
