Amie here, and welcome to our June miniseries, LGBTQ–IA!
Most of what hits the news these days about the queer Iowa community is negative. The Iowa Legislature passes new laws every year, restricting everything from books to bathrooms and doing away with housing and employment rights.
But even as they attack our neighbors and us, Iowans are finding ways to fight back and sustain community.

That’s what I wanted to highlight with this four-part series, LGBTQ-IA. Amid all the bad news, there is good—and this series will highlight it.
Each Wednesday through June, I’ll be bringing you short videos featuring queer leaders and organizations throughout Iowa—proving that, even in a state that is trying to suppress us, we’re still finding hope, optimism, and joy. Read more about the project here.
Plus: Each edition will list Pride events around Iowa for the coming weekend!
