Que Pasa Iowa Survey: Latinx Voters’ Thoughts On The Caucus

As part of Latino Heritage Month, the Que Pasa Iowa? podcast conducted a survey of listeners to find out what they knew about the 2020 Iowa Caucus and whether they felt their political party was talking about their concerns.

When asked if they knew what the Iowa Caucus is, 86% said yes [si].

Fifty-nine percent said they would participate in the caucuses, while 41% said no or they weren’t sure [no se].

When asked about their top concerns in the election, the top three responses were:

1. Immigration reform, 91% [Reforma migratoria]

2. Racism against inmigrantes and Latinx, 80% [Racismo contra inmigrantes y Latinx]

3. Gun policy and public security, 75% [Tiroteos y política de seguridad de armas]

When asked if their political party communicated their topics of interest, 57% said yes and 43% said no or they weren’t sure.

Que Pasa Iowa? contacted several presidential candidates to talk about some of these issues. We were able to interview a few of the presidential candidates and their surrogates at the Latino Forum Soapbox during the Latino Heritage Festival. 

Hawaii Rep. Tulsi Gabbard discussed issues important to Latinx voters in Iowa, including immigration reform and the importance of participating in the 2020 caucuses.
